This document has been designed to support leaders, governors and staff in preparing effectively for inspection under Ofsted’s 2026 framework.
It provides a structured self-evaluation tool based directly on the key strands within Ofsted’s inspection toolkit for the expected standard and a separate document for the strong standard. These strands reflect the core components inspectors will evaluate when determining the overall effectiveness of the school.
The document is organised around the following grading areas:
For each strand, statements drawn from Ofsted’s inspection toolkit are presented in table format. Alongside each statement, leaders are invited to record:
Evidence
Clear, specific references to documentation, practice, monitoring activities, data, pupil voice, stakeholder feedback, case studies, and external validation that demonstrate how the school meets the statement in line with the expected and/or strong standard.
Impact
A concise evaluation of the difference this practice makes to pupils. This should focus on measurable and observable outcomes, including improvements in progress, behaviour, attendance, wellbeing, staff development, and wider school culture.
