What is the Year 6 Editable British and World Timelines resource?
This pack includes an editable British and world history timeline that is fully aligned with the National Curriculum. According to the curriculum, pupils in Key Stage 2 should develop knowledge and understanding of key periods and developments in both British and world history.
Within the pack, you will find a completed timeline for both British and world history. The British history timeline includes the key periods that should be taught within the curriculum plus a topic that links to the objective of studying an aspect or theme in British history that extends pupils’ chronological knowledge beyond 1066, in this case World War 1 and 2.
The pack also includes timeline strips that can be cut out and used during lessons. These support adaptive teaching, allowing children to place the events in the correct chronological order and understand the duration of different historical periods.
In addition, there are three different blank timeline templates:
These provide further opportunities for adaptive teaching.
The same resources are also provided for world history. As not all world history topics are statutory, teachers can choose to use only the timeline strips that relate to the topics studied within their school curriculum.
Finally, pupils can combine British and world history timelines to see how historical periods overlap, helping them develop a stronger understanding of chronology across different parts of the world rather than studying them separately.
How can the resources be used?
Perfect for class displays, chronological teaching, and supporting historical understanding, these timelines provide a clear, adaptable framework for teaching KS2 history.
