What is included in the Retrieval Resources pack?
This pack contains a carefully designed collection of 18 retrieval activities that support children to:
Strengthen their memory
Recall and retain key knowledge
Deepen their understanding of previously taught topics
Revisit and consolidate prior learning in engaging, interactive ways
How can the Retrieval Resources pack be used?
These activities are designed to be flexible and easily adapted across subjects, helping retrieval practice become a meaningful and enjoyable part of everyday learning.
The curriculum lead could:
Introduce three retrieval activities each half term and ask staff to trial them across different subjects
Select one retrieval activity that is well suited to a specific subject and ask all staff to trial it over a few weeks
Share the full range of retrieval activity ideas with all staff during a staff meeting, agreeing together on the most effective ways to implement them
Whichever approach is chosen, it is important to build in time to gather staff feedback and reflect on next steps to ensure the strategies are effective and sustainable.
The 2025 Inspection Framework’s Curriculum and teaching evaluation area emphasises evidence-informed pedagogy that supports memory and learning. These resources support this focus.
